When people think about creating a stunning home, they often underestimate the role that landscaping plays in the design of a home. Lackluster landscaping can make even the most amazing home look humdrum, while outstanding landscaping can transform homes that otherwise would not stand out. However, great landscaping does not just happen. Great landscape reflects a conscientious approach to design, maintenance, and the hardscaping to make the landscaping possible.
At The Design and Build Group, we have been bringing amazing landscape design to the Central New Jersey and New York Metropolitan area for over 35 years. Here are some of the things we have learned along the way:
Great landscape should usually be low maintenance. Unless you have the funds to hire a gardener for daily maintenance, then great landscape design means working with plants that thrive locally, grow in predictable ways, and do not need constant replanting. We choose to work with a number of local perennials in many of our landscape designs, so our customers can spend time enjoying their landscape, rather than maintaining it.
Landscapes should be three dimensional. People often think of landscaping as flowers, because of the bright visual punch that can come with flowering plants. However, you want to include tall elements, which highlight outdoor design features, to make your landscaping a cohesive part of your home design.
Texture is critical. While color plays an important part in landscape design, it is only part of the story. Incorporating different textures can create visual contrast in a subtler way, bringing visual impact to your garden.
Finally, landscaping is personal. We all have things that we love in a landscape design. At The Design and Build Group, our landscape designers can show you how to successfully incorporate those elements you love into your landscape design, giving you a custom look that reflects your personal style.
